Stina's dingblog succeedes, Envy fails
Stina is... was dingblog's blogger of the week last week, getting this almost embarrassingly gushing review from Manbane. Of course you might think it's just dingblog pimping dingblogers which would make it easy to dismiss. Ra Ra, aren't our bloggers awesome. Easy to dismiss if it wasn't for the fact that Stina's blog is so damn good.
Stina's blog is always worth a look, updated often it features gems like My little pony vs. Winged demon pics, The inside scoop on a wow stalker and just recently an interview with Sco, Method's GM. In the gushfest Manbane states “She is the smack in the face of all the parents preaching how gaming ruins kids lifes”. While anyone who preaches that gaming ruins kids lives deserves a punch and Stina's blog may go some way to delivering that blow, the thing that makes the blog good is not that it is a corner of the web we can point to and say “See sometimes real people with real lives play video games”, the thing that makes the blog good is that it's well written, contains a great deal of variety and is simply a fun place to go for a few minutes once in a while. Mixing humour with honesty, nights out on the town with boss progress Stina's writing paints a picture of a gamer with a sense of perspective and a hardcore attitude to raiding. These are two things which seem to be hard to find together when looking over the WoW PvE community.
All too often opinions swing between the screeching hollow howl of the “guy with a life”, listing all the great and wonderful and most awesomest things they do with said life, at the other end of the spectrum, the pitiful bleating of the hardcore gamer who just knows that blizzard is out to get them and their money and wasn't it better back in the day when you had to kill the devil with a +1 rock of crapness.
Stina's blog is not either of these things, it is a picture of a subtler, more grown up world. It is between extremes, the tension of the guitar string, the bit which makes the music. This is good, because that is the place where the vast majority of life happens. Where the vast majority of truth is. The place where the adults live.
Here at Envy HQ we missed it. It was LAST week that stina got to be blogger of the week. This week it is some sort of alcoholic German hobo. Envy does not approve. Envy cannot stand idly by. How is it that one of ours gets such mad props on another site and we don't head on over to back them up? How is it that the comments section of her blogger of the week post contains zero -Count them ZE-RO- Envy trolls.
I strongly suggest we all head over there and rectify the situation right now. If you are shy, or simply feel that causing Stina undue embarassment with childish behavior is beneath you (What the hell are you doing on this site?) maybe just go read http://stina.dingblog.com/ instead.
